Westcountry
Rivers Trust's - Angling 2000 scheme
This initiative was started in response
to the Trust discovering a considerable undeveloped fishery
on many farms within Cornwall and Devon. By
facilitating the development of this resource, the Trust
aims to provide farmers and riparian owners with an economic
incentive to protect and enhance the rivers and streams
of the Westcountry.
The scheme operates via a simple token
system. Tokens can be purchased to fish any of the beats
participating in the scheme and come in two parts. The
first part is posted in a marked letterbox, located adjacent
to a designated parking place, at the start of the day's
fishing. The second part is a catch return to be posted
in the same letterbox at the end of the day's fishing.
Beats are rated according to their quality, ease of fishing
and species of fish present.
All proceeds of the scheme are returned to the riparian
owners to support improved river management initiatives.
