industry,
rivers and water efficiency
Industries vary a lot because
what they do varies a lot. ‘Industry’ is such a broad
term it can include factories making clothes and dyes, producing
paper, processing clay, packing and processing foods, or businesses
employing people in the service sector, such as travel or computer
companies. The list is enormous. Perhaps you live near an industrial
estate or factory, what is being made or processed there?

The biggest industrial user of
water in Cornwall is Imerys, and for a long time the company has
been recycling water and using old china clay pits as storage facilities.
The ‘Water Save Challenge’
for industry is quite general. Most industries will use large quantities
of water, whether this is in the processing or cleaning of materials
or because of the big workforce they employ, all of whom need water
to drink, flush toilets and wash their hands.
Look at the ‘Water
Save Challenge’ for a factory (E05a)
or an Office (E05b)
to see how water efficiency could be increased. You might be able
to give the sheet to a family member or friend who could work out
a score for the place where they work.
