rivers,
fisheries and land management methods
Introduction
We have been looking at some
land management issues, now we are going to look at some of the
management solutions.

Livestock poaching
by feeder next to stream |
Cattle in stream |
Riverbanks can be fenced and
drinking points provided to prevent stock trampling and eroding
the banks
|
Fenced riverbank
with drinking point |
Where stretches of rivers are
too dark and over-shaded, coppicing can be introduced to cut back
or thin branches and trees.

Coppicing |
Where the bank of a river is
eroded or needs support, revetment work can be undertaken.

find more information about the different land use issues and opportunities.
Some of the land management opportunities are quite simple to implement
but offer great benefits for wildlife, fisheries and farming.
Silt trapping (L06a)
Revetments (L06b)
Coppicing (L06c)
Riverbank erosion (L06d)
Overshading (L06e)
Buffer zones (L06f)
Stock drinking (L06g
Diag & L06g1)
Water treatment areas (L06h)
Woody debris (L06i)
Wetlands (L06j)
Invasive weeds (L06k)
Some examples of these land management
issues and methods can be found on the Trust’s Demonstration
